The lifespan of the vehicle’s battery and its overall mileage depend significantly on the charger’s performance and the charging methods employed. Therefore, it’s essential to follow the correct steps when charging your electric three-wheeler.

Using the Electric Three-Wheeler Charger

When charging your electric three-wheeler, it’s crucial to adhere to the following steps:

1. Start by inserting the charger’s plug into the vehicle’s charging socket. The battery indicator will light up, indicating that the battery is ready for charging. Next, plug the power cord into a 220V household electrical outlet and switch on the current. The power indicator will illuminate, and the ammeter will show a reading.
2. Adjusting the charging current: When the household electrical supply stabilizes at around 220V, begin with a low current charge for 1-2 hours (selecting 1-2 levels). Then, adjust the current to the normal value until the battery is fully charged. For a typical 120Ah battery, the charging current should be around 12A. When adjusting the current, monitor the ammeter reading to avoid overcharging or undercharging.
3. During the charging process, the charging indicator will remain lit (the “fully charged” indicator is for reference only). This indicates that the battery capacity has reached around 80%. The ammeter reading will decrease or approach zero. At this point, continue with a low current charge for an additional 2-3 hours to ensure a complete charge.
4. Fast charging: If you require a rapid charge within a short period, do not exceed 18A for the charging current. It’s advisable not to use a high current for extended periods, as it can reduce the lifespan of both the charger and the battery.

Important Considerations for Using an Electric Three-Wheeler Charger

1. Before use, carefully read the charger’s user manual and ensure that the grounding is properly connected.
2. During the hot summer months, when the charger operates for extended periods, it can become overheated. After two hours of charging, unplug the battery connector and let the charger’s fan run for approximately 30 minutes to allow the charger to cool down. This practice helps extend the lifespan of the charger and the battery.
3. If the charger malfunctions or fails to operate correctly, check the plug’s connection and ensure the fuse is intact. For long-term use, regularly inspect and clean the charging plug socket to maintain good electrical contact.
