The movable distance before the rear brake engages is called brake pedal free play.
Proper rear brake pedal free play is 10-20mm. To adjust:
- Loosen the rear brake rod lock nut.
- Turn the adjuster nut clockwise to reduce play, counterclockwise to increase it.
Note: If the pedal travel is too large to adjust, the brake pads likely exceeded wear limits.
Inspect the pad wear – replace if near or over limits. This maintains maximum braking power.
Adjusting rear brakes prevents overheating and uneven pad wear. Combined with front brake maintenance, this ensures reliable speed control and safe stops. Periodic brake checks are recommended for all e-trike riders.
