To check the parking brake:
Pull the parking brake lever up to move the pawl 4-6 teeth against the ratchet plate. See if it holds the rear wheel. If excessive handle travel exists, adjust as follows:
Loosen the cable lock nut, tighten the cable to suitable position, then re-tighten the nut.
Proper parking brake adjustment prevents accidental movement when parked. This avoids injuries or property damage. It also reduces cable strain and wear.
As part of routine maintenance, test parking brake effectiveness regularly on level ground. The pawl and ratchet teeth should fully engage to hold weight. Lubricate mechanisms monthly to prevent rust and ensure smooth operation.
Adjustments may be needed over time as cables stretch. Schedule periodic brake inspections to keep your e-trike safe and road-ready.
